Planning an Author's Website
In today's digital age,
readers, editors and agents all do one thing when they find a work by an author they like: they Google that
author. If a writer doesn't have a website then the only thing those interested parties will find are social
media profiles (if available) or brief mentions on other people's sites. While social media tools can be
great for an author to make connections, they just aren't of the same professional standard as a website. And
mentions on other people's sites leave a writer with little online control.
To make sure that you control your own image online a professional author's website is a must
even before you get that first publication. After all, writers with established online platforms will pop up at
the top of the hit list when others go looking for them. This means that writers can control the content others
see, including updates on new releases, competitions, where to buy books, where to find great reviews, words of
praise from others and contact information for people or groups who might be interested in booking the writer
for a public speaking engagement. Clearly a well planned website is an investment in an author's long and
successful career.
